What if the greatest transformation God wants to bring isn’t first in your circumstances?
What if it’s in how you see?
As educators, we spend much of our lives responding to what is directly in front of us.
- Students.
- Parents.
- Curriculum.
- Leadership decisions.
- Unexpected challenges.
- Transitions.
- Waiting seasons.
And while we often pray for God to change our circumstances, sometimes He begins by changing our perspective.
The Lens Matters
Have you ever noticed that two people can walk through the exact same situation and interpret it completely differently?
- The same difficult student.
- The same challenging administrator.
- The same disappointing evaluation.
- The same family transition.
- The same season of waiting.
- Yet one person experiences hope while another experiences discouragement.
Why?
Because the lens matters.
Romans 12:2 tells us: Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Transformation begins with perspective.
When God renews our minds, He changes how we interpret what we see. The circumstance may remain the same. But the lens changes everything.
Kingdom People See Differently
As followers of Jesus, we are invited into a different way of seeing.
Jesus taught: “The Kingdom of God is within you.” (Luke 17:21) And: Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness… (Matthew 6:33)
Paul reminds us: We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors. (2 Corinthians 5:20)
An ambassador represents one kingdom while living in another.
They interpret their surroundings through the values of their homeland.
The same is true for Kingdom educators. We live in this world, but we belong to another Kingdom. That means we are called to see differently.
To interpret differently and to respond differently because a Heavenly Perspective is shaping our perspective.
What If God Was Preparing You?
When I look back on my own journey, there were many seasons that didn’t make sense in the moment.
- Moving from Washington to Kansas.
- Learning to navigate instant Momhood.
- Career transitions.
- Literacy work.
- Ministry changes.
- Starting and pausing projects.
- Stepping into assignments I didn’t feel qualified for.
At times, I wondered where God was. But looking back now, I can see He was preparing. He was forming. He was writing a story I couldn’t yet understand.
What if some of the things you’re walking through right now are preparation rather than punishment? What if God is His truest nature– GOOD– is actually doing more than you can currently see?
The Burden Behind Wrong Perspective
Sometimes the burdens we carry are connected to the lens we’re using.
We tell ourselves:
- “I failed.”
- “I should have fixed this.”
- “I’m not enough.”
- “Nothing is changing.”
- “No one sees me.”
But before we agree with those thoughts, we need to ask:
- Is that Heaven’s perspective?
- Or is that fear talking?
Isaiah 55:8–9 reminds us: For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways…
God often sees something entirely different than what we see. Where we see failure, He may see growth. Where we see delay, He may see preparation. Where we see weakness, He may see dependence.
A Simple Reflection
As you spend time with the Lord this week, consider asking:
Jesus…
What situation am I viewing through fear?
What do You see?
What do You want me to know?
What truth have I forgotten?
One of the most powerful prayers in Scripture comes from Ephesians 1:17–18:
“…that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ… may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation… that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened that you would know the hope to which you are called to…”
Not more information.
Revelation.
Not merely new facts.
A new lens.
Friend, the good news is that Jesus is still opening eyes. He’s still renewing minds. And He’s still teaching His people how to see through the lens of His Kingdom.
The lens changes everything.
