Keys for Teaching Students with Trauma

As you step into your classroom each day, you may encounter students whose struggles go beyond what meets the eye. Some carry deep wounds, and their behaviors may be a silent cry for connection rather than defiance. In our latest podcast, Keys for Teaching Students with Trauma, Trish Zenczak from Society’s Childshares powerful insights on how to see these students through a kingdom lens and offer them the grace and stability they desperately need.

Here are a few key ways to support trauma-impacted students:
+Reinforce classroom structure to create a sense of safety and belonging.
+Equip students with coping tools to help them navigate challenges.
+Prioritize connection over control by making them feel seen and valued.
+Empower student identities rather than unpacking their trauma in the classroom.

Remember, you are never alone in this mission because God has promised to be with you ALWAYS. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6

And when you feel uncertain or weary, ask God for His heavenly perspective. He is faithful to give it abundantly:

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5

You are not just managing behaviors—you are stewarding young hearts. Your patience, love, and kingdom perspective can be a light in their lives. Be encouraged—God has placed you here for such a time as this!

Standing with you,
Jesica Glover
