Have you ever considered how Jesus coming to serve, and not be served, impacts you?
Let’s zoom in on Matthew 20:20-28. Having no idea that only God grants our places of honor, the mother of the son’s of Zebedee asks Jesus if her boys can sit beside him in his Kingdom. Jesus goes on to prophesy into the boys’ futures. Then he ends with these verses (25-28), “Jesus called them together and said, ‘You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave– just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
We see several significant points in this short passage, but I want to narrow in on the one that relates to our teacher hearts: Jesus came to not only pay for your salvation through his obedience to Father God, but he also sought to serve. And serving is what makes him great among us (vs 27-28).
I think it’s worth considering that Jesus is still desiring to “serve” you everyday via the Holy Spirit, also known as the Comforter (see John 14:26 AMP). He desires to speak to your heart because you are his Beloved son or daughter.
- Our King wants to minister to your teacher heart through serving you his love, grace, and mercy each day.
- He seeks to serve you his higher ways of thinking to help you renew your mind according to how he sees you.
- He wants to serve you his wisdom in simple and complex moments when you need him most.
How can you make space to respond to his daily invitation to serve you? Can you pause when you wake up to ask him what he thinks of you? Could you take a breath in the middle of the day and ask him to show you how to upgrade what you’ve already planned so that your students will feel his touch in a new way? Might you pause at the end of your workday to let him minister his breath of fresh air over you by wiping away the heavies that try to rest on your shoulders? Or maybe you release the pile of papers, and the grading to be present with your family this evening with his help? However you do it, take a moment each day to let the King serve you.
He’s after you heart, Beloved Kingdom Educator. He wants to fill you to overflow so you can serve out of his more than enough.
Praying you let JESUS serve you everyday,
Jesica Glover
