The Story Is Still Being Written: Trusting God Through Life’s Unexpected Chapters
Have you ever looked around at your life and thought,
“This isn’t what I thought my story would look like.”
Maybe you imagined your career taking a different direction.
Maybe you thought that prayer would have been answered by now.
Maybe you expected the waiting season to be over.
As Christian educators, we often spend our days helping students trust the learning process while quietly struggling to trust God’s process in our own lives.
Two weeks ago, we wrapped up this season of the Kingdom Educators Podcast with a deeply personal conversation featuring my husband, Dr. Jake Glover. Together, we reflected on trusting God through unexpected transitions, closed doors, unanswered questions, and the chapters of life we never would have chosen ourselves.
As I’ve continued thinking and praying about that conversation, I’ve realized its message extends far beyond a season finale. It’s a reminder we all need: God is still writing our stories.
Faith Doesn’t Require the Whole Plan
One of the themes that has woven through this entire podcast season is that God wastes nothing.
Not the difficult classroom.
Not the unexpected transition.
Not the disappointment.
Not the waiting.
And certainly not your story.
As Jake and I reflected on our own journey, we realized how many of the most meaningful chapters were the ones we never would have written ourselves.
Career changes.
Moving across the country.
Becoming an instant family.
Dreams that unfolded differently than we imagined.
Seasons of waiting that seemed to last longer than we hoped.
At the time, we wanted clarity.
Looking back, we see God’s faithfulness.
Hebrews 11:8 tells us that Abraham “obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.”
Faith has never been about having the whole map.
It’s about trusting the One who holds it.
God Is More Interested in Who You’re Becoming
One of the biggest lessons God has been teaching me recently is this:
He’s not only interested in where He’s taking us.
He’s deeply invested in who we’re becoming along the way.
It’s so easy to become consumed with the destination.
“What’s next?”
“When will this happen?”
“Why hasn’t this changed?”
But God continually invites us back to today’s faithfulness.
Today’s obedience.
Today’s grace.
Today’s opportunity to remain close to Him.
Ephesians 2:10 reminds us:
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Our responsibility isn’t to manufacture our future.
It’s to faithfully walk with Jesus in the present.
Waiting Is Not Wasted
Waiting can feel uncomfortable.
Especially when we believe clarity will finally bring peace.
But throughout Scripture we see that God often does His deepest work in seasons of waiting.
David waited.
Abraham waited.
Joseph waited.
Even Jesus spent years preparing before stepping into public ministry.
Waiting doesn’t mean God has forgotten you.
It often means He’s preparing you.
Romans 8:28 has been one of the anchor verses throughout this podcast season:
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”
Notice it doesn’t say some things.
It says all things.
Even the chapters that don’t yet make sense.
Presence Over Productivity
One of the greatest invitations of the Kingdom is this:
Remain.
Jesus said in John 15:
“I am the vine; you are the branches… apart from Me you can do nothing.”
Our culture constantly tells us to achieve more.
Produce more.
Figure everything out.
God simply says,
“Remain in Me.”
Because fruit grows naturally when we’re connected to the Vine.
Maybe the greatest act of faith today isn’t finding all the answers.
Maybe it’s simply staying close to Jesus.
Reflection Questions
As you spend time with the Lord this week, consider asking:
- Where am I trying to rush You?
- What am I afraid won’t happen?
- What are You teaching me in this season?
- What does faithfulness look like today?
- What do You want me to know about the chapter I’m living right now?
You may discover that God isn’t asking you to understand the entire story.
He’s simply inviting you to trust Him with today’s page.
Friend, Your Story Isn’t Finished
Although this podcast season has come to a close, I want to leave you with one final encouragement—one that I hope you’ll carry into the weeks and months ahead.
Don’t confuse an unfinished chapter with a finished story.
God is still writing.
He is still leading.
He is still preparing.
And He is just as present in the waiting as He is in the breakthrough.
Whatever chapter you’re living today, remember this:
The story is still being written.
And the Author is faithful.
