“Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.” (Psalm 25:4-5).
As I sat sipping my late afternoon vanilla latte at a Seattle-area Barnes and Noble cafe, my mentor’s question rolled around in my head. “You’re a missionary at your school, Jesica. Do you have a team of people regularly praying for you?”
It’s not like I didn’t hear what he’s said; it was more like I was having an epiphany.
I got prayer. I’d had experience with the power of prayer.
But seeing myself as a missionary was a new concept.
Me? A missionary?
No. That was what I did on my summer vacations. I went and I DID missions work. In other countries.
THIS? A teaching job in the states… a mission field?
That was a completely foreign concept to me.
But IF… I WAS a missionary… serving, praying, teaching as a light in the darkness… then I did need a team of people praying for wisdom, strength, and words of life to my teenage students.
That afternoon’s challenging conversation prompted me to begin gathering my Dream Team of Prayer Warriors.
Now looking back, I can see that their prayers helped open a new chapter of my teaching career WITH Jesus. Not long after these key players began pressing into God’s heart for my classroom, one of my students gave his heart to Jesus! It was the beginning of little miracles…
You, too, need your own Dream Team of Support. Think of yourself as a “sent out one.” (see Luke 10:1-24) Think through who you’ve asked to stand with you in prayer over the years. Whether your church small group, or a prayer team, or your friends who’ve known of your calling to serve in the world of education. Ask them to faithfully pray for you on a daily, or weekly basis.
Ask them if they could be prayerful that you’d be a source of life and light to your students and staff this school year…that everything you give would flow from your own growing relationship with the Holy Spirit, the Great Counselor.
What if you asked Your Dream Team to pray directly from Ephesians 1:17 (TPT) for you?
“I pray that the Father of glory, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, would impart to you the riches of the Spirit of wisdom and the Spirit of revelation to know him through your deepening intimacy with him“.
Imagine what could happen in your classroom teaching in connection with the Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation! Imagine the upgraded ideas you’d receive on a daily basis!!
Who will you ask to join Your Dream Team this school year? It’s time to gather those who will agree with you in prayer for your own classroom miracles.
