As I stood in a local coffee shop filled with Christian educators at our recent Back-to-School Teacher Blessing Night, one truth kept coming back to me:
You can’t give away what you haven’t received for yourself from Jesus.
We talk a lot at Kingdom Educators about being ambassadors of Christ.
About carrying His peace, hope, love, and goodness into our schools.
About making Kingdom impact.
Those are beautiful invitations.
But if we’re not careful, we can turn them into another assignment.
I need to be more patient.
I need to love my students better.
I need to bring peace into this classroom.
I need to make a difference.
And suddenly, we’re trying to manufacture in our own strength what was always meant to overflow from connection with Jesus.
We Love Because He First Loved Us
First John 4:19 gives us the order:
“We love because He first loved us.”
He loved us first.
Before we’re asked to give His love away, we’re invited to receive it.
Before you think about how well you’re loving your students, pause.
Are you allowing Jesus to love you?
Not the teacher version of you.
Not the productive version.
Not the version who got everything right today.
You.
His beloved son or daughter.
The one He knows completely and loves deeply.
This matters because we’re not meant to walk into our schools every morning and somehow produce enough love, patience, peace, wisdom, and goodness to meet every need we encounter.
We come to the Source.
We receive.
And then we have something to give away.
The Branch Doesn’t Manufacture the Fruit
Jesus gives us another picture in John 15:
“Remain in Me, and I in you… apart from Me you can do nothing.”
John 15:4–5
Think about a branch.
It doesn’t wake up in the morning and say:
Okay. Produce fruit. Try harder. You can do this.
The fruit comes because the branch is connected to the source of life.
I wonder how often we reverse that as Christian educators.
We focus so much on the fruit we want our students and schools to experience:
Love. Joy. Peace. Patience. Kindness. Goodness.
But Jesus keeps bringing us back to: Remain in Me.
Receive Before You Respond
Imagine how this could change an ordinary school day.
A student pushes every button you have.
Instead of immediately trying to be more patient, you pause:
“Jesus, I receive Your patience. Help me give away what You’ve given me.”
You’re heading into a tense meeting.
“Jesus, I receive Your peace.”
You don’t know how to help the student sitting across from you.
“Jesus, I receive Your wisdom. Help me see what You see.”
You’re discouraged and wondering whether anything you’re doing matters.
“Jesus, remind me what You say is true about me.”
This isn’t passivity.
It’s partnership.
We’re learning to respond from connection rather than pressure.
What Might Overflow From You Today?
Here’s a simple Teach Connected practice to try tomorrow.
Before you enter your school, stop for thirty seconds and ask:
“Jesus, what do You want me to receive from You today?”
Don’t rush to answer for Him.
Listen.
Maybe it’s peace.
Courage.
Patience.
Joy.
Wisdom.
Compassion.
Or perhaps what you most need to receive is simply the reminder: You are loved.
Receive it.
And then ask: “Jesus, who can I give this away to today?”
Now go about your day paying attention.
Because Kingdom impact may not look dramatic.
It may look like the student you stop long enough to notice.
The coworker you encourage.
The calm response nobody expected.
The truth you speak over a child who has heard something very different about themselves.
The grace you extend.
The moment you choose to listen instead of rushing.
Your devotional describes Kingdom impact this way: noticing the overlooked, responding with peace, speaking purpose, and following one quiet nudge from the Holy Spirit.
That’s not insignificant.
That’s overflow.
You Are a Conduit, Not the Source
This is one of the identity reminders I want Kingdom educators to carry this year:
You are a conduit. You are not the Source.
You are a beloved son or daughter of the King, an ambassador on assignment, and a carrier of His presence.
Christ lives in you.
You carry His peace, hope, love, and goodness into your school.
But you don’t have to create any of it.
Receive from Jesus.
Remain connected to Jesus.
Give away what you’ve received from Jesus.
Maybe that really is simpler than we’ve made it.
And maybe that’s where genuine Kingdom impact begins.
Teach connected, friend.
