| Happy first week of 2025! Can you believe only a week ago we were instilling New Years resolutions, putting away Christmas decor, and considering what we’d be teaching this week?? Despite our sluggish back to school start here in the Heartland due to a weekend blizzard, I’ve been contemplating a word the Lord has put on my heart about re-committing our “YES!” to Him when it comes to responding to His call to work with Him in the world of education. Whether it’s low daylight hours, less time spent outdoors, or the much cooler temps, winter is notorious for being the time of year when traditional teachers lose steam and some want to call it quits. Despite how difficult our work may be, the real determinant of our resolve is in our vision: Are we giving Jesus our “YES,” or have we hung up our hats and begrudgingly begun to work because we have to? I realize I am asking you to examine your heart’s affections, which may make you squirm, but Jesus is looking for a Bride who is ready to respond to His call to be a LIGHT in the darkness. Will we be those stand up and respond in obedience AGAIN with “Here I am Lord send me,” or will we wallow in our feelings– whichever dark hallway they lead us down? If you’re feeling burned out, worn down, or just plain tired I urge you to re-engage with “laying your little love down before Jesus” as Heidi Baker says. Your adoration, a response that comes from a surrendered heart, is a beautiful fragrant offering to the Most High God. He is honored by your re-upping to serve with Him in your classroom, the hallways, and out on the playfield. He is blessed by your looking in His direction, to inquire for wisdom, to call on His name on behalf of those under your care, and to respond to His nudges to step out in faith. If it helps you… think of your students as if they were Jesus and you were serving Him each day. How would you treat Him? How would you speak? How would you celebrate and call out the gold in each one? You are the object of Jesus’ affection. Will you allow Him to dote upon you as you’ve returned to your mission field? Will you respond to His nudge to re-up in committing to co-labor with Him? Your response matters. Your YES makes all the difference to dozens, if not hundreds of lives. As you ponder how to respond, know it’s okay to declare, “Lord I believe [my investment will bear fruit]; help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24b) He hears your heart and He will respond to you.
